School Meals

Children can either bring a packed lunch from home or order a school meal for lunch each day.

At the Infant School, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free meal each day under the Government Universal Infant Free School Meals Funding. Your child can simply choose from the menu at registration each day. Nursery children can order a sandwich which costs £2.00 per day.

At the Junior School, meals are also ordered at registration each day. The cost of a school meal is £2.50, school dinners should be paid for in advance on ParentMail, please ensure your child has enough credit on their account. Children entitled to Free School Meals can order in the same way but there is no charge. Please see below for further information about Free School Meals.

We are a healthy eating Federation, therefore, please refrain from putting crisps, sweets and chocolate bars in your child’s lunch box. Also, we have some children with nut allergies, so please do not include anything with a nut ingredient.

Our school meals provider is Devon Norse, their menus are available to download below. Norse also produce an Allergy Aware menu, to access this menu please complete the 'Special Dietary Registration Form' below and submit it to the school office.

Every Friday we have a Meal in a Bag, which is a very popular choice. Fresh vegetables from our school gardens are used in many recipes.  The children love seeing the produce they have grown in their meals and salads.

Free School Meals

My child gets a Universal Infant free meal anyway, do I still need to apply?

- Even though all children in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 receive a Universal Infant Free Meal, this is not the same as being registered as eligible for Free School Meals. We strongly encourage all families that could be eligible, to complete the online application to secure their Free School Meal entitlement as it will be protected until the end of Year 6.
- Being eligible for Free School Meals automatically entitles your child to Pupil Premium funding. This attracts further funding for schools to support families with the cost of school trips and other help.
- All children registered as entitled to Free School Meals receive a HAF code, this gives access to the Holiday Activities and Food programme during each school holiday.
- All families receive a supermarket voucher from the Free School Meals Holiday Voucher Scheme, currently £15 per child per week during each school holiday.

In addition, pupils will be protected against losing their Free School Meals status as follows:

From 1 April 2018, all children currently getting free school meals will continue to do so while Universal Credit is rolled out. This will apply even if their parents’ earnings rise above the new threshold during that time. In addition, any child who becomes eligible for free school meals after 1 April 2018 will be protected against losing these during the Universal Credit rollout period.

Once Universal Credit is fully rolled out, any existing claimants that no longer meet the eligibility criteria at that point (because their earnings are above the threshold or are no longer a recipient of Universal Credit) will continue to receive free school meals until the end of their current phase of education (such as primary or secondary)

Is my child eligible?

Free School Meals eligibility applies to pupils whose parents are in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

- Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods)
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guarantee element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

A pupil is only eligible for Free School Meals when an application has been made on their behalf and their eligibility, or protected status, has been verified by the school.
