How do I know what my child is doing at school?
Learning Letters
Learning letters are sent out via parentmail every half term. They include an overview of the areas of the curriculum that your child will be covering over the half term and some ideas of what you can do to help them. All learning letters can be found on the school website under the Learning tab.
Newsletter
The school newsletter is written weekly and is sent out via parent mail. Hard copies are also available from the school office. The newsletter acts as an information point for school activities, informing you of what is coming up. It also celebrates the Ambition, Adventure and Achievement that is going on at school as well as advertising community events.
School Website
Information about the curriculum and different school activities is available on the school website. The school website can be found at www.ladysmithfederation.net
Open Evenings
Half termly open evenings are held on the last Wednesday of every half term. Teachers will be in their classes from 3:30pm until 5pm. This is a great opportunity to come in and have an informal chat with the teacher about the curriculum or your child’s progress. You can also look at your child’s books and see some of the other activities they have been doing.
Parent Workshops
Throughout the year we will be holding a range of parent workshops. These will be designed to give you an insight into what your child is learning in specific areas and how things are taught.

Parents Evenings
Formal parents meetings will take place twice throughout the year. The first will be in October which is a good chance to ensure that teachers and parents have met if they haven’t already. The key focus of this first meeting will be to share information, discuss how your child is settling in to the new year group, discuss any concerns you may have and to look at their progress so far. The second meeting will take place in the spring term a week or so after their written report has been sent home. This meeting provides an opportunity to discuss the report and any concerns, look at progress so far and areas to work on for the rest of the year.
Open Evenings
The half termly open evenings are a great opportunity to come in to your child’s class and let them show you their books and work and explain what they have been learning about. The class teacher will be there to answer any questions you may have about your child’s work and progress.
Termly Reports
At the end of each term, a paper report will be sent home with your child. In the autumn and summer, this will give you a brief indication of your child’s attainment compared to Age Related Expectations, a snapshot look at their effort and attitude and their level of attendance. In the spring term, as well as informing you about the progress that your child is making, it will also celebrate their achievements, give you information about their attitude and approach to work and let you know some areas for development.
If you have any questions after viewing this or it raises any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.
Informal Drops ins or Arranged Meetings
Teachers are around after school on most days if you need a quick chat or would like to arrange a meeting to discuss a concern. Please either pop in to class to see the teacher directly, or call the school office and ask for the teacher to call you back to arrange a meeting time.
What can I do if I am worried about my child’s progress?
If you are concerned about your child’s progress the first step is to make an appointment to see their class teacher to discuss your concerns and look for possible solutions. If you still feel worried after this, please feel free to contact a member of the Senior Leadership Team:

Cookies set by the website owner or service provider (in this case, eSchools) are called “first party cookies”. Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called “third party cookies”. Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality to be provided on or through the website or service you are using (such as advertising, interactive content and analytics). The third parties that set these third party cookies can recognise your computer both when it visits the website or service in question and also when it visits certain other websites or services.
We use first party and third party cookies for several reasons. Some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for our Services to operate, and we refer to these as “essential” cookies. Other cookies enable us and the third parties we work with to track and target the interests of visitors to our Services, and we refer to these as “advertising” or “analytical” cookies. For example, the embedding of YouTube and Vimeo videos, as added by individual schools, will require “advertising” cookies to be enabled in order to successfully play them. Schools that, for example, opt to track visitor data using Google Analytics will require “analytical” cookies to be enabled in order to do so. These third party cookies are used to tailor content and information that we may send or display to you and otherwise personalise your experience while interacting with our Services and to otherwise improve the functionality of the Services we provide. We also enable schools to employ cookies and similar tracking technologies in connection with their use of our Services in order to allow them to track visitors to and interactions with their school website.

Our Services allows schools to embed code which may potentially contain cookies. Please note embedded content, if displayed on one of our websites, has been added by the school and not by eSchools. The embedded content added by the school may require additional cookies or tracking technologies to be enabled in order to function.
